Use cases · Back to baseband

From IP back to the equipment you already have.

Channels and live feeds arrive over IP. Your router, vision mixers, monitoring and recorders still speak SDI or ST 2110. Sixteen outputs in one rack unit bring every stream back onto them.

SDI Decoder, 1 RU with sixteen SDI outputs

The problem.

More and more of what a broadcaster takes in arrives over IP: contribution feeds over the internet, channels from partners, streams from other sites. But most of a plant is still wired in SDI, and a newer one runs on ST 2110. Something has to turn each stream back into a picture your equipment understands, many at once, reliably, and without a box per feed.

How it works.

  1. Streams arrive

Over your network, or over the internet with SRT or RIST.

  2. Into one rack unit

A Framecastic decoder takes up to 16 of them and decodes each one in hardware.

  3. Out as pictures

Each one comes out on its own SDI connector, or as uncompressed video on your ST 2110 network, with its audio.

  4. Into your equipment

Your router, vision mixer, multiviewer and recorders take it from there.

Back to baseband with Framecastic Streams arrive over the internet with SRT or RIST, or over your network with UDP; a file played back or a built-in test pattern can be the input instead. A Framecastic SDI Decoder or ST 2110 Decoder takes up to 16 of them in one rack unit and puts each out as a picture with its audio, on its own SDI connector or on the ST 2110 network, into your router, vision mixer, multiviewer and recorders. What you get.

Sixteen outputs in one rack unit

Sixteen 3G-SDI outputs from one box, with redundant power supplies, instead of a decoder per feed.

Any way in

Each output takes a stream over UDP, SRT or RIST. Instead of a live stream, it can play a file or show a test pattern.

SDI or ST 2110

The SDI Decoder outputs SD, HD and 3G-SDI, interlaced or progressive, including 1080i50 and 1080i59.94, with up to 16 audio channels embedded on the SDI pairs you choose. The ST 2110 Decoder puts uncompressed video and audio back onto your ST 2110 network, with seamless protection and network timing.

Feeds lined up

Feeds that belong together, such as cameras from one event, can be lined up by their timecode, so they reach your vision mixer in step.

Prove the path first

Built-in test patterns put colour bars on any output, so you can check every cable and router path before there is a feed to send.

Easy to run

Every output is set and watched in a browser, and everything is available through the REST API for your automation.

What you need.

WhereUnitWhat it does
Your plant is SDISDI DecoderUp to 16 streams back to 3G-SDI, in 1 RU

Your network An IP network, or an internet line for feeds from outside

Good to know.

  • HD only. The decoders output up to 1920 × 1080.
  • Lining feeds up. It needs timecode in the feeds, and works across up to eight outputs at a time.
  • Your own servers. The same software is available as a perpetual licence for servers you already own.

Try it on your own feeds.

Remote access to a running unit first, then a unit in your plant for a couple of weeks, with a written report you keep either way.
